GiveBig on Wed. May 15 – Please Support FHNA

FGiveBIG2013_color_dateHNA Members and Friends:

As you may know, the Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG event is on Wednesday, May 15, and we are exhorting…urging…and entreating you to make a tax deductible donation that day to the Finn Hill Neighborhood Alliance. Just go to our GiveBIG page and donate online.

What is GiveBIG? It’s the Seattle Foundation’s annual one-day event to promote contributions to non-profit organizations in the Puget Sound area. Donations made through the Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG website between 12:00am and 11:59pm on May 15 to a participating non-profit group – like FHNA – will trigger an additional donation from the Foundation and local business sponsors.

FHNA is a 501c3 tax-exempt organization, so your contribution will be tax-deductible.

  • Why give to FHNA? FHNA is your neighborhood association. We work hard to ensure that Finn Hill’s unique interests are well represented at Kirkland City Hall and in King County Government. We have a strong record of working to preserve and enhance critical open space – for example, O.O Denny Park, the Juanita Woodlands Park, and the acquisition of lands for the Juanita Heights Park and the Eastern Finn Hill ravine. We’ve been active in promoting the development of a neighborhood zoning plan for Finn Hill and ensuring that zoning changes are postponed until that plan is created. We organize local events to promote a sense of community – DennyFest, our annual festival in O.O. Denny Park, restoration projects in our parks, community garage sales, etc. And we’re working closely with the City and County on a variety of other issues: trail planning in our parks, surface water management, and traffic safety.
  • To be effective we need your financial support. We’re a 100% volunteer organization, but we need funds for our community events, for website support, and for habitat restoration projects. We’d also like to send out newsletters to all of the households in Finn Hill. That takes money. And we would like to publish locally focused plant and wildlife guides, as well as continue the work we’ve begun on trial maps. We’re exploring a proposal for outdoor summer day camps in O.O Denny Park and we’re also looking at hiring consulting help for the neighborhood plan that we’ll kick off this summer.
  • The more you help on May 15, the farther your contributions will go – thanks to the GiveBIG  matching funds. FHNA will continue to be an active, engaged organization only if you support it. So, please, help FHNA help make Finn Hill a great place to live by contributing on Wednesday. Tell your friend and neighbors, too!
