Sign Up to be a CERT Disaster “Victim”

Sign up to be a CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Disaster “Victim” on Nov 3, 2013

“Victims” participate all day, this role ends at 8:00pm. “Victims” should wear comfortable clothing that will become soiled with artificial blood and make up. “Victims” must be at least 14 years old, able to sit or lay still for long periods of time, and stay in character per their assigned dramatic role. Volunteers are needed for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) final simulation drill on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 1:00pm to 8:00pm at the Peter Kirk Community Center in downtown Kirkland. This is the “final exam” for CERT students to demonstrate their search/rescue and first aid skills.

CERT-logoTwo Types of Volunteering:

  • Set the disaster stage
  • Be the victim

The CERT program needs volunteers to set up the facility to make it look like a disaster has occurred.  This job will take about an hour and begins at 1:00pm.

They also need volunteer “victims”, who are assigned dramatic roles and specific injuries.  A professional make-up artist applies moulage make-up and prosthetics to realistically simulate injuries.  This is an all-day role.  “Victims” are scheduled to arrive between 1:00pm and 2:00pm and are expected to stay for the duration of the drill, which ends at 8:00pm.

Snacks are provided throughout the day, and a pizza dinner accompanies the de-briefing.

Participants must be 14 years old or older.  Students between 14 and 18 years old must have a signed consent form from their parents.

Confirmation, guidelines, a volunteer agreement, and further information will be e-mailed to you.
