Volunteer to Help our Trails – Oct 12

Big Finn Hill Park Trail Maintenance:

Saturday October 12, 2013

While winter is not yet upon us officially, the rains have started and the trails are getting damper. Trails don’t maintain themselves, people do! Come and join us to help maintain our trails and contribute to less muddy paws, shoes and bike tires. This is the perfect time to work on trails as the dampness means the soil is not rock hard. As a benefit, you’ll get a great workout.

We will be gathering by the kiosk/new Big Finn Hill trail sign on NE 138th PL (west of Juanita drive) on Saturday Oct 12, 2013. We’ll work from 9:30 am to approximately noon, but if you only have an hour we still will appreciate your help. We will work north of the meeting area, bear left after the old sign in the woods to find us if you come a bit later.

Activity: We’ll work on the west side trail north of 138th. (Between W #1 and W #4 on the map). We’ll be focusing on removing landscaping timbers in the trails and replacing them with natural materials (e.g. logs). In addition, we’ll remove the old “Big Finn Hill Park” sign in the woods at the intersection.

Bring: Work gloves & water are essential. If you wish to bring a shovel, pry bar, muscles, and a sense of humor the job may go more smoothly. Dress for the weather with good foot gear.

Weather: We’ll work rain or shine, drizzle or grey. HOWEVER, if the WIND is strong we might cancel for safety of our heads.  Call me or text me at the number below if questions on the morning of Oct 12.

Contact: jeanette@finnhillalliance.org or 425-877-3327. A headcount would be useful so we can stage the work and bring enough bottles of Gatorade. Students are welcome to join us for their volunteer credit hours, if under 18 please e-mail me so I can send a form for a signature from a parent or guardian.

We look forward to seeing you, and the trails say “thank you.”
