Time for the 2nd Group Park Walk

Come join us for a fun walk in the park!oct20-people-on-bridge2

On Sunday Nov 17, 2013 at 1:30 pm we’ll be leading another in our popular series of walks in our big wonderful Finn Hill Parks. Big Finn Hill Park (a King County Regional Park) has more than ten miles of natural surface trails, so it is a great place to get to know.
Who Can Join

Everyone is welcome including well-behaved children and well-behaved dogs on leashes. This is a great chance to learn more about our parks and explore new trails.

Where to Meet

Meet at the Big Finn Hill Park sign on the south side of 138th PL  (This is about 150 yards west of Juanita Drive at the painted crosswalk; #6 in the map link below).   You can park on the side streets by the houses, and walk back to the cross walk.   Your tour guides will be standing by the sign a few minutes before start time.

Date & Time of the Park Walk

Meet at 1:30 pm Sunday Nov 17. Plan for approximately 1.5 hours.

About the Walk

Does Finn Hill have a number of wonderful parks you’ve been meaning to explore but haven’t quite made it? Are you a bit intimidated by trails disappearing into the woods? Perhaps there are monsters, or goblins! This is your chance! It is time for an guided walk in the park.  Click for map of the west side of Big Finn Hill Park.

For this adventure we’ll do the perimeter trail of Big Finn Hill Park on the WEST side of Juanita, the loop is about 1.8 miles with elevation loss and then gain of about 100 feet.   There are options with less elevation if needed (says one of the guides who recently strained her knee).  We’ll have two guides, so those who are inclined can take a short cut with less hills.

Additional Details

What to Bring & Wear: Dress for the weather and muddy trails. Don’t hesitate to bring your camera, binoculars, field guides and your bottle of water. If windy (e.g. gusts > 15 mph), falling limbs can be hazardous so we might cancel for safety. (If windy I’ll hang out at the starting point just in case.) Well-behaved children are  welcome.   Well-behaved, on-leash dogs are welcome (bring a towel for getting back in the car).

Maps:  Your guide will have a limited number of copies of the maps, so if you wish one don’t hesitate to print from the link above.   This is a link to the brochure to Big Finn Hill park as a whole (your guide is temporarily out of printed copies of this brochure).

More About the Hike: We’ll start in the Big Finn Park by the crosswalk on 138th. We’ll walk clockwise along the perimeter trail, passing through a wonderful stand of Madrona trees, Douglas fir, and maple,  site of old homesteads (overrun with blackberries) and other interesting features.

We plan on a pleasant afternoon.  I look forward to seeing you all there!
