Dog Blog: H is for Hawk & How Come People Keep Calling My Name?

There seems to be some excitement in the air.

Or has the world

gone crazy?

I’m a happy, well-adjusted yellow lab, and, as you can see from the picture,  I have been thrown a football from time to time.

But these days, people I know are going around with their faces painted college navy blue and lime green. My Momma is wearing blue and green every day and has not even taken down any of her Seahawk Christmas stuff.

And that’s only the beginning of the weird stuff I’ve seen lately.

Heads up! It's a lateral.

Heads up! It’s a lateral.

All my Momma watches on TV is that same football game she taped last Sunday. If she’s already seen it, why does she need to keep watching it over and over again? It doesn’t change. But My Momma sure has. She videotaped Grandma yesterday with all her Seahawk Stuff, dressed in a helmet, with My Grandma yelling something about going to the Super Bowl.

Well, I know about Bowls, and I love my food bowl, of course. And I know my name is Hawk, but am I getting a better Bowl?

My Momma taught me right. I ‘come’ when my name is called. But people I don’t even know are all calling my name, screaming at the tops of their lungs. Hundreds of them down at Marina Park, when we took my regular walk last week, were yelling and jumping up and down like I’ve never seen humans do before. Some of them were dressed like big birds.

In fact, it was My Momma standing with a bullhorn in front of the lake, waving her arms, leading that cheering crowd calling my name, screeching “Go Hawks, go Hawks!”

There seems to be some excitement in the air. "Go Hawks!" everyone keeps yelling. That's My Momma, Terri Fletcher, leading a spirited rally at Marina Park.

Well, I know she loves me, but really, this is ridiculous.

As a general rule, I find it pretty fun to watch humans watching other humans chase footballs down a field.

Okay, but what I don’t get is that the footballs they fetch are too big to catch in their mouths — and they’re not even made in cool colors!

Crazy, I know. My Momma  thinks her team is still playing. And her behavior is getting stranger and stranger.

Every morning she says, “Hawk, can you believe we are going to the Super Bowl?”

So I keep checking my bowl. But it’s empty again, and no bigger, and no better.

“Hawk, can you believe we are going to the Super Bowl?”

I just don’t get it. My crazy, crazy human! I guess there are different kinds of human mental illnesses.

Hawk is a 115-pound yellow lab living in Kirkland who recently attended a Seahawks pep rally led by his Momma, Terri Fletcher.   Thanks to Dave Sharp for the great photos of the rally.
