2016 Annual Meeting Recap Covers Board Elections and Finn Hill Landslide Video

FHNA hosted its annual meeting last night at Finn Hill Middle School. About 60 people attended to cast their vote on 6 open board seats. After each candidate provided a short speech on why they were seeking election and participation on the board, attendees were handed paper ballots to cast their vote. After all the votes were tallied, FHNA was pleased to welcome four new board members: Ed Hunt, Marc Ackerman, Michael Fehlauer and Amy Falcone. Re-elected to the board for another 2-year term were Jon Pascal and Bill Blanchard.

Matt Pruitt then provided an update on the neighborhood plan process and upcoming timelines. He encouraged all members to view the Finn Hill Neighborhood Plan page City of Kirkland web site for more information about the planning process, and to be aware of upcoming happenings.

The members then were given a preview of the completed Landslide Video prepared by FHNA’s Barbara Travers. In the wake of the Oso disaster, FHNA sponsored a well-attended public event on the hazards of local landslides in June 2014 that drew more than 120 people — and videotaped the presentation. We now have a short video focused on landslide hazards in our area for all to view. It addresses the potential risks of mudslides and landslides here on Finn Hill, drawing on that public program and more. The video is below.

A presentation on the upcoming school bond provoked a lively discussion on the needs of the Lake Washington School District (LWSD) to provide needed classrooms and address again facilities such as Juanita High School. The LWSD is the 4th largest district in the state.  This is the 7th straight year of growth with an average of 625 students added each year. The LWSD covers 76 square miles and manages 52 schools. Ballots should be arriving soon in the mail. LWSD stressed that the bond will not increase existing tax rates due to an expiring levy.

The evening ended with a presentation on the Juanita Drive Quick Wins. The project team from the City attended and summarized the improvements people can expect to occur in the next year along Juanita Drive. For a complete overview of the improvements go to the City of Kirkland’s page on Juanita Drive Quick Wins.
