Welcome to 2018! Here are some activities coming up soon

Dear Finn Hill neighbors and friends, Happy New Year! As we start our first weekend in 2018, the Finn Hill Neighborhood Alliance invites you to participate in some important activities and meetings during the week of January 15. And we’d also like to thank those of you who responded so generously to our call for donations last month for the Billy Goat Trail.

Monday, January 15 – Martin Luther King Day tree planting: Get outside and make the world better by planting some trees in Big Finn Hill Park! King County is organizing a work party that will meet at the Big Finn Hill playground at 10am. The event will run until 2pm. Come when you can and stay until your inner Johnny (or Jeannie) Appleseed has had his/her fill. Signing up on line will help the County and FHNA gauge how many tools to bring: https://volunteer.uwkc.org/need/detail/?need_id=300807

Tuesday, January 16 – City Council adoption of Finn Hill neighborhood plan: It’s been 2 years in the making, but Finn Hill’s neighborhood plan is finally ready for adoption by the City Council at its next meeting on Tuesday evening, January 16. In a few days, we’ll send out a separate email summarizing key elements of the plan, but it would be very helpful for Finn Hill residents to come to the meeting to show support for the plan and also to write Council members next week to urge adoption of the plan.

Wednesday, January 17 – FHNA annual members’ meeting: We’ll convene at Finn Hill Middle School cafeteria on Wednesday evening for our annual meeting of FHNA members. If you live on Finn Hill, you’re an FHNA member, so please come! We’ll elect board members, highlight accomplishments in 2017, talk about disaster preparedness, and offer previews on what we hope to do for Finn Hill this year. More info to come on this meeting next week, but please save the date.

Billy Goat Trail/Green Loop Donations: We put out a call to the neighborhood during Giving Tuesday last month for contributions to help us fund open space acquisitions for the Billy Goat Trail and for the Green Loop around Finn Hill. A big THANK YOU to all of you who responded so generously online and by mail. At last count, we’ve received over $8500 in gifts…and we think a few more contributions have yet to come in. That gets us very close to our initial goal of $10,000. And if last month’s opportunity slipped past you, don’t fret – you can still make a tax-deductible donation to our Green Space fund. Just go to the FHNA website and click on the Donate button.

Looking ahead to February: More planting work parties are scheduled next month – February 17 in the Juanita Woodlands and February 24 back at Big Finn Hill. Also, the Kirkland Planning Commission will review amendments to the Holmes Point Overlay ordinance. Details to come.
