The past month has brought big momentum on the climate front. Keystone XL was denied a permit by President Obama, Shell and other major oil companies are scaling back exploration, and diplomats prepare themselves for the International Climate Summit later this month in Paris. Locally, CarbonWa has managed to collect over 300,000 signatures to put I-732, a statewide carbon fee, on the ballot in 2016. Our Kirkland chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby continues to meet every other Sunday preparing for personal, local and regional action to combat climate change. We have been exploring how each of us can have a personal impact using a discussion course sponsored by Northwest Earth Institute. Our collective emphasis is on carbon pricing mechanisms at a state and national level and on resisting increased oil by rail transport in our state.
