Eastern Finn Hill Expansion

There are wooded parcels of land on Finn Hill’s eastern slope that can help to create greenways and trails connecting Juanita Beach to the top of the hill and, one day, a continuous pathway from Big Finn Hill through Goat Hill and up to Simonds Road.

Today, the Finn Hill Neighborhood Alliance (FHNA) is negotiating to preserve 8 pristine acres next to Juanita Heights Park. We’ll need community support and assistance from the City of Kirkland, King County, and other sources to fund the purchase.

If we don’t act, we’ll lose these green spaces forever.

The Future

If we secure this property as open space, FHNA will continue to work with local government and property owners to set aside other land for a continuous greenway for walking and biking that connects Juanita Beach to Simonds Road on the Kirkland/Bothell line.

Please Help Spread the Word

Over the years, Finn Hill residents have succeeded in protecting O.O. Denny Park and the Juanita Woodlands from housing subdivisions. Let’s do it again. If you want to get involved or just want to know more, please tell us by visiting our Contact Page and follow us on Facebook.

Juanita Heights Park Expansion

FHNA Board Members took Kirkland City Manager Kurt Triplett on a tour of land adjacent to Juanita Heights Park on June 30th.  There are five parcels for sale by a private landowner and they cover more than eight acres of densely wooded terrain; the forest canopy is healthy and the ground covers are remarkably free of invasive plants. An additional expansion of Juanita Heights Park would anchor the existing wooded areas that still blanket the southern and eastern slopes of Finn Hill. Preserving these open spaces would benefit wildlife and act...

Environmental and Adventure School Kids Transform 8K sq ft in Juanita Heights Park

Monday and Tuesday, June 9 and 10, the Environmental & Adventure School kids spent 5 hours in Juanita Heights Park on a community service project. They were removing blackberries and ivy. The kids were in the park this past March working on removing invasives. At that time they learned how to construct an ivy raft so that bundles of  ivy would dry and die. The raft starts out in an area cleared of ivy, large branches make up the frame and coffee sacks from Green Kirkland are laid inside the frame. In the past, before we used burlap...
